Recently I bought a violet mercerized cotton yarn with “violet” being the color of the year in my mind, but when I got home I can’t even think of a single project that I could make with it. Maybe because violet is not my new black or because I prefer the lighter shades of purple and orchid.
Then it just happened. Last week I received two crochet books and a beautiful crane bird scissor as Valentines gift from hubby that instantly got me in the mood to start another project. As I was browsing through the books, I saw different coasters and doilies which gave me the idea to use the violet yarn to make an old favorite project of mine – the Hearts Coaster!
This coaster was one of the very first projects I learned from my grandmother and I am so glad I still remember how to do it. The pattern is quite simple and quick, it would make a great project even for a beginner. I’ve also included a few photos to give you an idea on how to work the pattern.
MATERIALS:
• Hook: No.8 JAPAN IMIA steel crochet hook / 0.90mm crochet hook
• Yarn: Any fine mercerized cotton yarn (I used approximately 175 meters/1 roll of Monaco yarn to make 6 coasters).
• Small yarn needle
ABBREVIATION/STITCHES:
• Magic ring
• sc – single crochet (US) / dc – double crochet (UK)
• dc – double crochet (US) / tr – treble crochet (UK)
• st(s) – stitch(es)
• sl st – slip stitch
• [sc, inc] n times – repeat the pattern between parentheses n times.
• ([N sts]) – number of stitches in a round after finishing round.
If you need guide with the stitches, you can always check my post about Basic Crochet Techniques HERE.
NOTE:
– Finished coaster measures 11cm in diameter. Any variations to hook size and yarn weight will result in a different sized coaster.

I just love making crocheted coasters. One of my goals is to have a whole box full of them someday that I can pass down to my nieces or to my son (if he wants them) and keep as treasures. If you get the chance to try my pattern, please share your finished work and don’t forget to tag me in INSTAGRAM or FACEBOOK. I’d love to see them!
i’m going to try doing them. Thank you.
Thank you! Just tag me when done, love yo see your finished coasters.❤️
